RESEARCH ASSOCIATE : is mainly invloved on the projects which are funded by World Bank and Ministry of Information Technology work includes Software Development , Design, Coding and Debugging, Studying the Projects.
ER&DCI is a scientific society under Ministry of on technology, Government of India. It is a pioneer organization in India engaged in Application oriented Research and Development in Electronics and Information Technology catering to the needs of the industry, defense Sectors of the country. The center has built up strong expertise over the years in the areas of computers,Communication, Control and instrumentation, Artificial Intelligence,Power Electronics,
VLSI Design, etc. The resources available in ER&DCI include among other things , an IBM S/390 mainframe system,
VLSI Design Center and advanced CAD facilities.
Project: Working on Power Distribution Automation
Client is KSEB(Kerala State Electricity Board)
The Project involves development, installation and commissioning of Electrical Distribution Automation system for Thiruvananthapuram City having 3 substations. The system includes Distribution nodes, Substation Control System and Central Control System. The distributed nodes are strategically located Micro RTUs(Remote Terminal Unit) linked to Central Control System. The system is the first of its kind in India.
My Role :
A) DEVELOPING GIS(Geographical Information System) FOR TRIVANDRUM CITY USING VC++ 6.0..
# Brief About GIS:
The map of Trivandrum City has been digitized. The location of all the transformer and major structures under the various electrical sections have been physically verified and mapped on to the digitized geographical map. Details like road details, name of important places, Substations, Structure names, Sections etc. are created in different layers in different colors. The various properties of the layers like color, visibility, line thickness etc. can be selectively controlled by the user.
GIS consist of mainly following layers:
7 Substation layer
7 Structure Layer
7 Structure Name Layer
7 Connectivity Layer
7 Section Layer
7 Road Map layer
The main feature of GIS is that user can Reconfigure Feeders can add Transformer, delete Transformer, add link, delete link, open or close link, load flow analysis, alternate feeding, transformer rating and cable properties etc. can be modified.
This package supports ODBC compliant databases such as dBaseIV, Foxpro, Paradox, Oracle, Access etc. SQL interface is provided for manipulating tables, records and objects in drawing. The geographical map is linked to the central database, which contains information regarding the distribution network.

* Developed a module for Remote switching of feeders during feeder reconfiguration in the GIS package using Visual C++.
* Developed a module for managing RMU's in the GIS package.
* Developed a module for tracing and retrieving Feeder Reconfiguration Sequence.
B) DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF WEB PAGE DISTRIBUTION AUTOMATION.
Developed Using MicroSoft FrontPage 98, PhotoShopro
* Using Java Applet , Getting online Value on the HTML in the Browser.
Using MFC WinInet classes
a) Creating a Web Browser.
b) Using HTTP protocol downloading web pages
c) Using FTP protocol downloading files, deleating files , Uploading files.
C) RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) ENABLING USING STANDARD DATABASE.
* Entering Area name,giving Unique ID,Checking for the Status.
wheather it is a RMU (Ring Main Unit) or Substation.
* Uniqueness of Feeder name and Feeder abbreviations is checked for the Rtus enabled.
* Configuring RTU (16 Nos), Disabled or Enabled checking is done.
* Editing features are availabe for the Tables.
* Generation of Binary Files having informations such as Rtu enable Status, Areaid, Feeder Name.
* Binay File Updation Facility.
* Report of Configuration is maintained.
* Detail Report of Individual Rtu with Print Options.
D) MANIPULATING FLAT/BINARY FILE.
* Reading File total 27 fields (Tag id,Tag Name,Tag Des.,Min val,Max val,Status).
* Placing all the contents on the string grid.
* Updating the file (Getting connected to online data from the rtu(remote terminal unit).
* Finding the individual tag & displaying the detail information about the displayed tag.
* Editing & Saving the File.
* Create Database & Merging Database.
* Conversion from Binary to Standard DataBase.
* Conversion from Standard DataBase to Binary .
E) MANIPULATING WITH STANDARD DATABASE LIKE DBASE,PARADOX TABLE.
* Creating Structure,Adding items,saving.
* Finding Common Fields from the tables.
* Query Implementation.
